Leeward

Leeward is a Spain native, Berlin based composer. Formally trained, he started at a young age with a piano career through the Royal School of Music, studied cello in the local conservatory and sound engineering at SAE Barcelona. A natural at the many facets of composition, he gravitated to various instruments pointing to his multiple influences, besides piano and cello, he plays some accordion, percussion and he’s versed in music synthesis, making him a multi-instrumentalist of sorts. His influences are very varied he explains: “I have listened to all kinds of music, from classical to hip hop to ska to punk to drum and bass to techno to experimental to pop, I feel my influence comes from very different backgrounds, but If I had to pick two genres I would probably pick techno and flamenco.”

With a keen visual aesthetic, he finds inspiration in abstract and industrial art, but specially moving image where his focus has been for the past year in the studio, writing music for independent films. He has always dreamed of writing music for film, he finds that incredibly rewarding and inspiring form of composition. Leeward is his moniker for his current project, drawing from the sailing lingo, boats being another of his passions and dedications. He’s no stranger to a music career and He is currently busy in the studio preparing his debut EP as Leeward and dreaming up his live set. His debut EP is coming out in 2019 on Subtempo.
